Yogamatic.com

Offers a Gallery of Innovative and Eco-Friendly Designs

By Missy Adams

For the first time, yoga teachers and students alike have the opportunity to customize their space with yogamatic.com, a unique, creative and revolutionary mat melding social consciousness with artistic design. The first and only brand to create limited edition, custom-printed yoga mats from an amazing online gallery, yogamatic.com provides works of art constructed with health and eco-conscious materials. Yogis can select unique print designs from yogamatic.com’s online gallery of original graphics and artwork or choose to customize their own images.

The graphics in the yogamatic.com gallery are restricted to the brand, which never uses stock photos. Images are presented in several categories including Fine Artist, Designer, Photographer, Typographer and Spiritual. Yogis who want personal photos on their mats can upload their own digital images and use the yogamatic.com’s one-of-a-kind image manipulator function to adjust the picture ~ as well as add up to 40 characters of a personal message. Those seeking a more customized experience can consult with yogamatic.com’s team to come up with their own exclusive design.

How did yogamatic.com come to be? Tired of staring at the same boring mat four times a week, Yoga devotee and businesswoman Maryl Georgi created the yogamatic.com concept. She then enlisted the talents of her longtime friends, successful graphic designer William Cawley and accomplished photographer Jennifer Cawley, to bring her idea to life.

“It’s a way to practice by your own design,” William said. “This is your 12 square feet of real estate.”

In consideration of sturdiness, user safety and environmental consciousness, they honed in on Thermo Plastic Elastima, or TPE, the most sustainable and eco-friendly of material options. TPE is made with hydrogen and oxygen and is constructed to last for an extended period. It is compostable and does not contain latex, rubber or any toxic materials. It also has closed-cell construction, which keeps sweat and other external elements from seeping into the material.

The 6ft tall by 2ft wide mats are Tibetan yellow on the bottom with a zigzag impression that provides excellent floor traction. The ¼ inch thick mat is sandwiched, the two halves bonded together by an eco-friendly process. Dot nodules on top of the mats provide solid hand and foot grips, and “yogamatic.com” is embossed across the end of the printed side. A heavily modified printer, specially adapted for yogamatic.com, imprints the designs with water-soluble ink.

Furthering its social conscience beyond the product, Yogamatic.com also contributes to a number of charitable causes, with 5% of profits benefiting Global Green, the U.S. affiliate of the Green Cross. Last year, the eco-friendly line created special mats for Earth Day 2008, which were awarded to a host of environmentally conscious celebrities including Cameron Ellen DeGeneres, George Clooney and Sting. Yogamatic.com also provided mats for Food Bank for New York City 2008.

These mats are also perfect for Pilates and come with a free carrying bag with an adjustable shoulder strap.
