Panther Distributing’s South African Stunners Garner Rave Reviews
By Kristie Bartlett
Three of Panther Distributing’s top wine selections from South Africa have quickly established themselves as favorites of some of the most discerning wine retailers in the area and as darlings of many of the Commonwealth’s most experienced wine palates.
The Chamonix Troika (Troika: Russian sleigh pulled by three horses) Reserve 2008 is a beautiful New World style Bordeaux blend that is full, round, and smooth with aromas of fresh herbs mixed with ripe black currant and raspberry flavors. It’s rare to find a wine as harmonious as this one, so it’s no surprise that it being celebrated in restaurants that pride themselves in serving only the best.
The 2009 Botanica Chenin Blanc, applauded at many an Italian/Mediterranean eatery, is produced by Ginny Povall, a native of Framingham. She found her destiny in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa, from where this delightful wine hails. Dry farmed, with 50% barrel fermentation in French oak, the wine has tropical fruit notes and a firm acidity.
The unique romancing of grapes found in Pierre Jourdan’s Haute Cabrierre Chardonnay/Pinot Noir blend, and the delicate balance of that blend ~ 60% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir ~ elevates this elegant yet intense wine to the top of the most exclusive wine lists of Massachusetts’ finest eateries.
All of this wonderful recognition comes on the heels of three other of Panther’s South African selections ~ the Haute Cabriere Chardonnay Pinot, Botanica Chenin Blanc and the Chamonix Pinotage ~ being lauded as equally spectacular additions to the most select restaurant wine cellars in the Commonwealth.
